Melton Mowbray Lions (CIO)
Melton Mowbray Lions (CIO) is part of Lions International the largest “SERVICE” organisation in the World. There are 1.4 million members in over 48,000 clubs in more than 200 countries. In the U.K. there are 9,000 members in 530+ clubs. Like-minded people who for one reason or another wish to give something back to the community
Lions Clubs International were formed in 1917 in Chicago by Melvin Jones and went truly International with the establishment of a Club in Canada. It was thanks to the support of Canadian Lions and the intervention of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, that the first Lions Club in London was founded in 1950. Today, HRH Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh is the Royal Patron of Lions Clubs of the British Isles.
The motto of Lions International is “WE SERVE” with every Lions Club serving in many ways.
Fundraising – to support good causes for those in need within the community.
Welfare – giving our time to help those in need within the community. Hospital transport, gardening, simple maintenance tasks or by just being there if required.
Service – Humanitarian: Telephone befriending support, spectacle recycling + much more.
Quite simply “WHERE THERE IS A NEED THERE IS A LION”
Friendship & fellowship is also important within Lions International with many opportunities to meet and make friends with like-minded people not only locally but Nationally and Internationally.
