Over the past twelve months Lions International members within the British isles have served over 500,000 hours volunteering and serving our local communities. Serving over 73,000 people in that time and raising over £9 million, all of which goes to support good causes.
Since Melton Mowbray Lions (CIO) were formed in 1974 we have made a difference within our community and with your help we could do more. Serving the community with projects such as:

Throughout the year Melton Mowbray Lions collect and recycle spectacles from opticians and members of the public that are sorted into various categories and sent to our National Headquarters in Birmingham where they are then graded and forward to third world countries. As a group we recycle no less than 15,000 pair of glasses each year while Lions across the British Isles recycle at least 1 million pairs per year. You can help us recycle spectacles by bringing you unwanted old glasses into our community hub.

Our world today is far more environmentally aware than ever before, and we must do everything we can to safeguard our environment for future generations. As individuals we can make a small difference but together just image what we can do. Melton Mowbray Lions are involved in many different environmental projects from forming a Community Allotment to supporting Melton Council with their tree planting projects and even helping our senior citizens with there gardening. We have supported schools with their sensory gardens and provided a friendship bench in the Bell Centre at Melton Mowbray. Even help manage the gardens in and around Melton Mencap. If you feel we would like to help improve and our environment and have ideas, then just contact us and come along and volunteer, your help will certainly make a difference.

Lions Clubs across the British Isles support diabetes testing along with prostate cancer testing and here in Melton Mowbray our club organises two tests every year for both Diabetes and Prostate Cancer awareness. This cannot be done without the help of you our local community, by making donations at the Community Hub, 4 The Bell Centre, Melton Mowbray, supporting the various fundraising projects we organise. For more information regarding forthcoming Diabetes & Prostate Cancer screening, then just go to the Events page where full details are available along with fundraising projects planned for the rest of this year. If you have any ideas on how we can continue to support projects such as this then please contact us or come along to one of our business meetings, full details can be found by clicking on the contact us button.

Cancer is the number one cause of death by disease among children globally, with an estimated 400,000 children around the world developing cancer each year. Only half of them are ever diagnosed.
Support for Childhood Cancer is not just about fundraising to find a cure or organise a treatment centre, although all donations would be more than gratefully received.
Support comes in many different ways, such as planning a toy and book collection for donation to local childhood cancer health centres or facilities in your area, or getting involved with the British Isles Lions project “Caps of Courage”, details of which can be found on capsofcourage.com .
Once more, if you feel that you have the time and energy to make a difference to Childhood Cancer, please contact us by clicking on the “Contact Us” tab on this site.
Your help and support would be gratefully received and will make a difference to those in need.

With the communication systems available to us in today’s world we are more aware of disasters as they happen right across the Globe. Lions Clubs International support those areas that have and are suffering today around the world by making funds available to obtain resources urgently required. Cooking and heating stoves for the refugees from the Ukraine conflict is such an example. But we also help those in need within the British Isle, earlier this year Lions Foundation UK provided funds to support those people who were affected by flooding in Monmouthshire. Once more this could not have been done without the support of our local communities. If you feel you would like to help and volunteer to support any disaster relief here in the UK or around the world, just click on the contact us tab in this website and we will be in touch. Your help and support will make a difference.

(Community Support) Lions’ International motto is “WE SERVE” and how better it is to do that than serve our community, making a difference within our own environment and jointly right across the world where there is a Lions Club. Locally Melton Mowbray Lions support Melton Mencap and undertake most of their maintenance projects, we also support Melton Council by helping fit CCTV cameras and doorbells for senior citizens. We offer help and support at the annual parade of Remembrance and the Battle of Britain Parade and support the organisers of the 40’s weekend by providing Marshalls around the event. In addition to this we run the Community Hub in the Bell Centre where tourist information is readily available, and a Chatter Club twice a month where teas, coffees and the occasional biscuit are readily available. Not forgetting the Santa’s Grotto that can be found annually at the beginning of December. We are proud to say we give our time willingly, where there is a need there is a Lion. Once more if you know where we can help support our local community then please contact us using the contacts page. Also do not forget if you would like to get involved, in any way whatsoever than please let us know.

Unfortunately, hunger is still an issue throughout our world today where people have nothing to eat for days on end. Thankfully, things within the British Isles are not as bad but hunger is still an issue, and we are finding the demand on food banks is increasing. Within Melton Mowbray we have the Storehouse (Hope Centre), Rural Food Hub Network found at Asfordby – Bradgate Flats & Bottesford – Parish Rooms, along with the Melton Learning Hub. Melton Mowbray Lions support these food banks whenever possible and aim to be able to offer fresh fruit and vegetables from the Community Allotment later in 2026. Your support with the upkeep of the allotment would be invaluable even if you can only give us an hour of your time each week. For more information just complete the form on our contact us page.

Youth is our future, the worlds future leaders and the worlds future decision makers. Lions Clubs across the world recognise this and we have a great number of projects aimed at these young people. Young Ambassador of the Year, Young Leaders in Service, Peace Poster & Peace Essay Competition, Lions Roar Project as well as Leo’s Alpha and Omega Clubs. Also, we have an international Youth Exchange & Camp where young people can visit other countries and experience different cultures while being cared for by Lions club members. Melton Mowbray Lions have been able to enter a number of young people into one or more of these projects and are constantly looking for different ways we can support and help young people from within our community. Yet another Lions Core Service you may want to get involved with, if so just use the form that can be found on the contacts page.
