About us
Melton Mowbray Lions (CIO) part of Lions International, the largest “SERVICE” organisation in the World, was formed in1974, serving the community in many ways.
Proud of the fact that where there is a need there is a Lion. During our 51 years of service to the community, with the support of the businesses and the general public it is estimated that we would have raised over £1 million pounds that has gone to support those in need.
Community Impact
Melton Mowbray Lions (CIO) provide services within the Melton Mowbray district as well as supporting good causes when and where the need arises
Lions 8 core service projects:
Vision:
Recycling spectacles for use in third world countries Child vision screening
Environmental:
Recycling printer cartridges – batteries – litter picking Tree planting – youth community allotment project.
Diabetes Awareness:
Melton Mowbray Lions (CIO) sponsor a twice-yearly diabetes awareness screening.
Hunger:
Support given to local food banks along with volunteering to undertake “gleaning” fruit & vegetables from local farms.
Youth:
Support given to all local schools to encourage them to participate in various Lions projects. Lions Roar – Young Leaders in Service – Peace Poster & Peace Essay.
Humanitarian:
Annual Seniors concert – Twice monthly “Chatter Club” Telephone befriending support for those lonely or isolated. Message in a bottle or message in a wallet.
Disaster Relief:
Where there is a need there is a Lion. Support locally and across the world wherever disaster strikes. Support given in war torn areas, people made homeless due to flooding or wildfires. Support during national crisis such as covid.
Childhood Cancer Research:
Lions nationally support the need for cancer research, specifically Childhood Cancer Research.
